Our Mission
The Amachi model, developed in 2000 in Philadelphia by former Mayor, Rev. Wilson W. Goode, has proven successful in offering the kind of intervention that breaks the troublesome cycle of generational poverty and incarceration.
Nearly two million children have a parent who is in prison, according to statistics from the Bureau of Justice. Without intervention, 70% of those children will find themselves in their parent’s position. The mission of Lawndale Amachi Mentoring Program (LAMP) is to provide mentoring and support services to children whose parents are incarcerated; to improve the life prospects of these children by breaking the cycle of poverty and contact with the criminal justice system. |
